Our Mission
& Vision

The mission of the Beloved Early Education and Care Collective is to ensure that every child enters kindergarten socially and emotionally ready to learn, that every pregnant person, parent and early educator has positive well-being and the tools to navigate maternal health and early care systems, that families are resilient,  and that our community reduces mental health stigma for all ages.

Our vision is to build upon the assets of our hardest-to-reach pregnant people, children, and caregivers so that we can co-create beloved community in maternal health and early education where everyone is treated with dignity.

Our BEE Birthing A Community Coalition is a multi-generational network and Community of Practice for birth workers in South Carolina. We exist to reduce maternal and infant mortality and morbidity in the Lowcountry of SC. We recruit, train, and support a new generation of birth workers that honor the wisdom and traditions of the many elder and ancestor granny-midwives that have served and protected our communities.

What is Beloved Community?

“Beloved community is formed not by the eradication of difference but by its affirmation, by each of us claiming the identities and cultural legacies that shape who we are and how we live in the world.”

“Be aware that the other children of the world are your responsibility as well. You must learn to see them, to feel them, as yours. Until you do, there is no way you can make your own child feel safe.”
